We provided sound, lighting and staging for Jets & Capital at the Provo Airport in the fall of 2023. The brief was unusual and the reason we took it: light the aircraft and the cars, not just the stage.
An empty hangar is a hard room. It is enormous, the walls are bright corrugated metal, the floor is polished concrete that throws everything back at you, and there is no ceiling to speak of. What makes it worth the trouble is that the same reflectivity turns into an asset once you light it deliberately. We used 68 LED fixtures, 8 moving heads and 24 glow tubes to pull the jets and the cars out of the dark and give the room its depth back.
Stage and sound
We supplied an 8′ x 12′ stage and ran four handheld wireless microphones through our sound system for the presentations. Jets & Capital brought their own TVs for the event rather than using ours, so we provided the trussing they hung from. The DJs for the night were DJ Jordan Nelson and DJ Teo.
Why the before-and-after matters
The two daylight photos above are the honest version of this job. A hangar at noon is a warehouse. Everything that makes the night pictures work — the separation between the aircraft and the background, the beams that give the room a ceiling, the reflections in the floor — is lighting design and rigging, decided in advance and hung before the doors open.
