For two years running we have produced the Winter Welcome, the annual fundraiser for the Snowbasin ski team.
The team runs under the Snowbasin Sports Education Foundation, a community-supported non-profit whose U10 and U12 programs are the reason the fundraiser exists. Local companies and families donate to a silent auction, and the money raised puts kids into the program who would not otherwise be in it.
A fundraiser is three events in one room
That is the part worth planning for. A sit-down dinner, a live silent auction, and a set of presentations all happen in the same space over the same few hours, and each wants something different from the audio. We supply the sound system, the lighting and the music, and the work is mostly in the transitions.
Dinner needs music low enough that a table of eight can talk. The auction needs the room bright enough to read a bid sheet. The presentations need every word intelligible to the back wall, from speakers who are often volunteers rather than practised presenters and who will step away from a mic without noticing. Then the room has to come back up afterwards without the evening feeling like it ended. Through the auction and dinner we run upbeat throwbacks mixed with current top 40, which keeps energy in the room without competing with the bidding.
